Dallas Decrim Is in Effect!
Just last November, the Dallas voters turned out for marijuana decriminalization — and now the policy is in effect throughout the city.
When we launched our Dallas campaign, it was with the knowledge that decriminalization was long overdue and urgently needed in Texas’s third largest city. Arrests for possession of personal use amounts of marijuana were disproportionately affecting residents of color, and the fallout from those charges often caused lasting harm to both individuals and their communities.
Although efforts had been made for several years to get this policy change in Dallas, they had been unsuccessful. Ground Game Texas was able to offer our expertise born of our previous electoral victories throughout Texas to finally make decriminalization a reality.
We know that this policy benefits cities in multiple ways, and we’re thrilled that it’s now in effect in Dallas. According to local news outlet WFAA, “Dallas officers are now prohibited making arrests or issuing citations for marijuana possession – four ounces or less.”
